Taiwan

So, I had planned on going to Taiwan to visit an old friend, Kristen. We worked together for a few years and even went to high school together (she was a year ahead of me). We had not seen each other for many years, but I thought that since I was in Thailand it would be easy for me to just "pop" over to Taiwan. I spent the first 5 days in Taiwan in Taipei by myself while she was working. The next week we were going to spend travelling around Taiwan.

I arrived at the airport, and grabbed a bus to take me into Taipei. The hostel that I stayed at had very detailed instructions on how to get there from the airport. So I followed them. I made it, I started on one bus and then transferred to another. I got to the metro and got on changed trains once and then walked about a block. The hostel was so cute and the staff, very friendly. It is called The Three Little Birds.

I got settled, showered and went out. By this time it was about 5:30pm, and I was beginning to get hungry. I thought I would explore the streets and find some food. I walked through a little market that had cute things everywhere (Asians are obsessed with cute things) and found some food vendors. As I was walking I realized that I didn't even know how to say hello. I realized that I wasn't sure how I was going to get food. None of my Thai words could help me now. I thought I'll figure it out. While I was walking past some food vendors I smelled something, something awful. I was afraid that I would order whatever it was that I smelled by accident so I decided to continue walking until I couldn't smell that anymore. (I later found out that it is called Stinky Tofu). I stumbled upon a crepe place....YES PLEASE. She had pictures that I could order from too. For supper I ate a crepe filled with brownie, cheesecake, custard, and fruit, topped with ice cream! So goodly. This made for an awesome Day #1.
