My Adventure Abroad: Pai

Such an amazing place! The distance from Chiang Mai to Pai is not so far, but with all of the switchbacks in the road it made the 135 km distance take about 4 hours. The drive was not so fun. I was entertained by some of the bumper stickers that the buss driver had inside his "bus". (Really a larger mini-van).

Javiera and I made a list of all of the things that we needed to do because I only had planned on being there for one day as I had to move into the next volunteer house the next day in Chiang Mai. So this was going to be a very busy trip. Future note if anyone is planning on going to Pai, don't do it in one day. Go for a whole weekend, leave on Friday and come back on Sunday. You will be much happier about that.

Well I can help plan things, I think Javiera did most of the planning...I don't plan things...
I was able to do 3 of the things that we set out to do.

First for this trip, we would need to rent a motorbike to get to all of the places that we wanted to go. No problem! I have already mentioned how that went on an earlier post.

On our list we did make it to Pai Grand Canyon first. It rained a little bit but was so beautiful, it took a little while for us to find it, and we asked Many people - things just aren't well signed. But we made it.

Everything about Pai Grand Canyon was so beautiful - and HIGH!

Following Pai Grand Canyon we went to Pembok Waterfall. Right on schedule on our list of things to do. It was a beautiful waterfall! I am not sure why I didn't plan on swimming there, but I didn't bring my bathing suit, I was planning on swimming at the last waterfall of the day. Silly me, no swimsuit and a want for swimming; so I jump in in my underwear! Same same, but different.

Of course my phone was dead when I got to the waterfall, so I was unable to take any photos. :( But My friend Javie sent me this Gem:

On the way back from Pembok waterfall is where it all went wrong. This is where we had our accident. Covered in mud and blood we went back to our hotel, feeling defeated, plans changed for the evening, as now we have to clean ourselves up and grab dinner close to our hotel so we don't have to take the motorbike.

Our next task was to find the White Buddha in the mountain. I had read that you should go at sunset, we were going to go on Saturday night, but since we had the accident - neither of us felt like it. So we decided that we would get up or sunrise and go then.....
4:30AM.....
6:30AM...
8:30AM.....
9:30AM......get up
